A Call for Volunteers!
From laying the trails and installing trail signs, to working events and assisting with summer camp, the Nature Center would not exist without our volunteers. Virtually everything done to create the Center has been accomplished by volunteer effort, with funds provided by memberships, grants, and donations. More than 70 people volunteer each month to keep Price Hall (the Center’s multipurpose building) open to the public. Now we are asking you to join our team!
Volunteers determine their own schedule and can work on their own or with a partner. We invite you to come walk the trails and experience our urban forest.
Price Hall
The Clinton Nature Center is currently recruiting new Price Hall volunteers. Price Hall, our education/administration building, is open free to the public every day of the year, with Price Hall open from 9:00 AM-4:30 PM Monday-Saturday and 1-4:30 PM on Sundays.
Price Hall houses a large classroom, gift shop, restrooms, and office. There are three shifts during the week and two on Sundays. One or two volunteers work each three hour shift so that between 20 and 40 volunteers are needed each week. Some work every week, some once or twice a month, and a few work whenever needed. The Price Hall volunteers number over 100 at any given time.
Volunteer shifts are often quiet (good book-reading and knitting environment) but are sometimes full of school children exploring the trails! Responsibilities include counting visitors that come onto the grounds, answering the phone, manning the gift shop, occasional administrative work, greeting Price Hall visitors and answering any questions that they may have. Whether you can work one shift a month or 5 (or more!), we would love to have you as a part of our organization! Join us in this urban forest, where people can enjoy, appreciate, and learn from Nature in all its aspects.
Development & Maintenance
Our oldest volunteer group is made up of those who are responsible for the development of the trails and other facilities. This group is made up of a small cadre of men and women who have worked thousands of hours and also have led hundreds of volunteers who have worked from two or three hours to scores of hours each. This group is still active in development and maintenance of trails and other facilities including the nursery, ponds, well and Price Hall. If you are interested in physical labor, this group works most Saturdays and other days depending on need and availability of volunteers.
Special Events
Nature Day and other special events offer a range of volunteer opportunities.
